Bittinger/Ellenbogen: Intermediate Algebra

Chapter 10:

  Conic Sections

The first three sections of Chapter 10 discuss several conic sections in detail: parabolas, circles, ellipses, and hyperbolas. The final section explains how nonlinear systems of equations operate. Diagrams in this chapter help to foster an understanding of conic sections and their characteristics. A real world application utilizes the arc of a snowboard to show how manufacturers determine the radius of the board.
